Education Issues of Pediatric Bipolar Disorder |

|
"Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world." Nelson Mandela, former South African president
Overview
A child diagnosed with pediatric bipolar disorder needs parents and health professionals who know how the illness affects learning, as well as supportive teachers and school staff. The child may need some special accommodations in the classroom or may need to spend some time in a therapeutic day school or residential treatment center to receive an education while treatment options are explored.
Times of stress and vulnerability for the child and the family are during episodes of bipolar illness or returning to school after a hospitalization. Appropriate accommodations and modifications can reduce stress and can assist in achieving and maintaining recovery.
CABF maintains an Education Message Board to post questions, concerns and suggestions on working with children with Bipolar Disorder in an educational setting. Please feel free to post any time. With thousands of members, CABF has a wealth of information available for your assistance and support.
